A Passenger Vessel in the Box
MOVENA KOREA proudly signed the following new contracts for 2019:
Technical support for a 1,200 pax passenger vessel newbuilding for TANZANIA (Lake Victoria), design of propulsion shafting and rudder system, procurement specification, material/components inspections etc.
Korean GAS Entec is the main contractor for this investment.
The newbuilding shall enable travel of passengers at Lake Victoria, Tanzania. In Tanzania, another “passenger vessel out of the box” is already serving passengers on Lake Tanganyika: MV LIEMBA, formerly GRAF GOETZEN, a Meyer-Werft/Papenburg (Germany) built more than 100 year old passenger ship.
This unique ship newbuilding project requires delivery of the whole vessel in container boxes as LAKE VICTORIA is 1,000 m plus above sea level. In 1913 the box size was 2 x 2 x 2 m³, delivered by train and “hand carried” to the lake shore side for vessel assembly. Nodaway’s ship assembly is slightly more comfortable, the production principle, however, is as unique as a century ago.
MOVENA is preparing the newbuilding project management including plan approval and site supervision on behalf of owner for the passenger vessel.
Other contracts cover consulting, design works and supervision for R&D projects sponsored by the KOREAN GOVERNMENT. Partners include KOPICO (shaft and rudder manufacturer) and DAESUN shipyard.
