Cooperation: Loewe Marine, Movena Korea and Subsea Global Solutions (SGS)

Allgemein

HANSA (July 2025) published an article about deepening of cooperation between LOEWE MARINE, MOVENA KOREA and SUBSEA GLOBAL SOLUTIONS (SGS) (see here).

Press release/core content (quote):

LOEWE MARINE, MOVENA KOREA, and SUBSEA GLOBAL SERVICES deepen partnership

Global, highly professional service for more efficient propulsion systems, efficiency conversions, and repairs, including underwater welding work

LOEWE MARINE and MOVENA KOREA, long-standing maritime partners, are pleased to announce the expansion of their collaboration in the area of maneuvering and propulsion systems following intensive discussions in Busan and at the Hamburg Port Club. SUBSEA GLOBAL SOLUTIONS (SGS, Miami) is joining this partnership at the same time.

LOEWE MARINE is a globally established manufacturer of rudders for all ship types and sizes, as well as a provider of maintenance and repair services for rudders and steering gear.

MOVENA Group (Busan/Bremen) has more than 20 years of experience with all major Korean and Asian shipyards, shipping companies and classification societies in the areas of construction, planning approval, ship surveys/repairs, and certification of materials and components.

SUBSEA GLOBAL SOLUTIONS operates offices on all continents and has its own divers, particularly for underwater welding work. SGS and MOVENA have already successfully completed more than 10 joint projects in recent years without dry docking.

The goal of this intensified cooperation is to offer maritime customers a specialized, professional service with single-hand highly efficient propulsion and manoeuvring solutions, to leverage synergies, and to reduce costs for ship operation and repairs.

Ship owners and operators can now benefit from this partnership.

LOEWE MARINE, MOVENA KOREA and SGS offer tailor-made solutions for efficiency improvement, renewal or modification/repair in the field of propeller conversion and highly efficient full-spade rudders and in innovative design of ship hulls.

The new joint service offering includes:

  • Tailor-made, fully optimized ship and propulsion design from a single source, which already meets future EEDI-3 and CII requirements with maximum efficiency and a holistic design approach
  • Support for internal and external modification projects to jointly improve existing propulsion and rudder efficiency as much as possible
  • Analysis of damage in the propulsion area, presentation of a catalogue of measures for temporary or final repairs, including underwater works, underwater welding etc.
  • Support during the conversion/repair phase in the dock, including interface management for the propeller system, rudder, and steering machines, to ensure smooth operations, the highest quality from a single source, and rapid implementation

By providing holistic support for all four areas – hull, propeller, rudder, and steering machine – LOEWE MARINE, MOVENA, and SGS also reduce interface problems. This risk reduction for ship operators simultaneously leads to more efficient processes, shorter project times, and improved techno-economical results.

“Our long-standing partnership with LOEWE MARINE and SGS enables us to offer shipowners, among others, an even more comprehensive service,” explains Y.S. Kim, Managing Director of MOVENA KOREA.

“With this new partnership, we can specifically address the individual needs of our customers worldwide, optimally tailor their propulsion systems to their specific requirements, and provide targeted support for implementation in the dock and on the water,” adds Carsten Löhmer, Managing Partner of LOEWE MARINE.

Kevin Peters, Director Technical Sales at SGS, emphasizes the importance of the experts’ partnership for ship operators and insurance companies, “as we avoid expensive and time-consuming docking or towing ships over long distances, thus reducing costs.”

The collaboration underscores the companies’ commitment to applying and further developing innovative solutions in the field of marine technology and to sustainably maximise improving the efficiency and reliability of ship propulsion systems. All parties involved are thus making a significant contribution to sustainability in shipping.
